History of Gospel Music

This course will trace the development of gospel music and the gospel music industry. Beginning with Martin Luther’s church music reforms, areas of study will include the Geneva Psalms in meter, gospel hymns coming out of the North American revivals, Black and Southern gospel styles of the early to mid 20th century and Contemporary Christian Music (CCM).
