Diploma in Youth Ministry
This diploma has been designed for students with a degree, a diploma from another discipline, or life experience. It compacts many of the core courses in the youth degree into 3 years. Students pursuing this option will receive the foundational Biblical/Theological, general and professional studies to prepare them to effectively minister to youth and administer youth programs within the local church or para-church organizations. Diploma students are part of the youth program for retreats, activities, fellowship and conferences. At a later date students are well prepared to complete one more year and receive the Bachelor of Theology Youth Ministry Degree.
The diploma follows the same outline as the Bachelor of Theology Youth Ministry Program with the exclusion of the final year. Students will follow the same practical placements in first and second year and the internship in their third year. They will focus on relational ministry in the first year and youth culture in their second year. In their third year students will concentrate on preaching and teaching students as well as leading disciple making youth ministries. Students will be prepared for full time professional youth ministry in a church as well youth work on a campus or social agency.
As with the degree program diploma students will begin in the first year to learn about the Foundations of Youth Ministry as well as Church and Parachurch Youth Ministry. In second year students will concentrate on addressing Youth Culture, Urban Ministry, and Preparing a short term mission trip. The third year involves studying Counselling, Adolescent Development, Youth Issues and a number of practical pastoral ministry courses. Finally, as well as practicing skills in a 400 hour internship under an approved supervisor students will meet one to one with the director preparing for full time ministry in a church or other agency.
Students graduating with the 3 year diploma will be:
Capable mature professionals prepared to lead a church ministry, train volunteers, organize an outreach programs, retreats, and mission trips with students and their families.
Competent leaders; knowledgeable in Bible and theology, adolescent development, counselling, youth culture, and youth issues.
Confident in their skills to teach, lead, mentor, and administrate a disciple-making ministry to students and their families as team member at a church or other agency.
Compassionate; having a heart for God as well as empathy for parents and students, helping them to find wholeness in Christ.
