DEVELOPING INNOVATIVE SPIRIT-FILLED YOUTH LEADERS …

The Youth Ministry Institute exists to prepare men and women to understand and relate to youth culture, love teens, lead them to Jesus, and equip them for ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit. Students in the Youth Ministry major are trained to meet the expectations of the youth pastors or leaders including everything from campus clubs, city wide events, small groups, camps and retreats, acts of kindness, local outreach projects and overseas missions trips.

A crucial element of that training is a carefully integrated program of weekly ministry in the church, campus or community and an intense internship. One exciting element is the Youth Ministry Impact Team, ministering to dozens of youth groups in the province every year!

Meet the Program Directors

Ron Powell – Director

Ron has a passion to train men and women to reach and disciple teens through relational ministry. He has been on this mission in pastoring and teaching youth ministry for the past 27 years. Presently he is the Youth Ministry Institute Director at Vanguard College in Edmonton and a junior high volunteer at North Pointe Community Church. He holds a Masters in Youth Ministry from Tyndale Seminary, Toronto, and a Doctor of Ministry from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Chicago. Ron has been a regular workshop leader at YC Edmonton, Breakforth Canada, and other youth leadership conferences from Newfoundland to British Columbia.

Tyson Howells – Associate Director

Tyson has been married to his amazing wife, Evie for ten years and has three boys (Blake, Jude, and Seth). To add to the chaos of their home they also have two golden retriever dogs and a tank full of fish. Tyson and Evie were youth pastors in Winnipeg for five years and for the past six years were youth pastors at Mill Woods Pentecostal Assembly in Edmonton. Tyson is passionate in seeing relational youth ministry that results in youth that are passionate about following Jesus. He still leads a small group at the youth group in his home church.
