September 16 Update

As you are aware, yesterday evening the province of Alberta declared a public state of emergency and instituted a range of new measures to help combat the spread of Covid-19 in the province. We continue to review these new measures carefully, but please note the following immediate changes to how we operate:

  • There will be no classes on campus on Friday, Monday or Tuesday.
  • Classes scheduled for Friday, Monday or Tuesday will be offered via alternate delivery methods.
  • The facility will be closed to students and guests from Friday September 17th until Tuesday September 21st. The facility will be open for staff and faculty.
  • Over the next few days, distancing will be re-instituted into all our spaces. The chapel and West Wing 226 will be used as classrooms. The gym may also be used.
  • We are planning to re-commence on campus, physically distanced classes on Wednesday September 22nd.
  • We are hopeful most classes will remain in the same time block, but some classroom locations may change.
  • In person chapels will be cancelled at this time. In person Chapel Life Groups plan to commence the week of September 27th.
  • All co-curricular activities and events, extra-curricular trips or socials are cancelled until further notice.

We are in communication with Alberta Advanced Education and continue to monitor developments. Further details will be provided in due time.

August 27 Update

Dear Students:

The start of the on campus school year is getting ever closer and we are excited to welcome modular class students this coming Monday and our new students next Friday for Orientation. We are carefully watching the provincial covid-19 situation where cases are rapidly rising, and following Alberta Health Services requirements. We also want to share the results of a recent survey that was conducted with our staff, faculty and students. The survey reported 53% of students are fully vaccinated and a further 6% are partially vaccinated. 81% of faculty/staff are fully vaccinated and a further 5% are partially vaccinated. It is evident that the vaccine is the best defense we have against the spread of covid-19.

You will be pleased to know that our classrooms are back to normal, our student lounge is fully open and we are planning for live chapel services and on campus community events. However, one update we need to share with you is that effective Monday 30th August, face masks will be required to be worn at all times on campus. This requirement will be in place at least until September 27th when the province plans to move to its next phase of response.

Isolation requirements for symptomatic individuals (whether vaccinated or not) remain and so the message is simple: If you are sick stay home. If you have any of the core symptoms covid-19 symptoms, you need to isolate for at least 10 days from the start of your symptoms or until they are gone, whichever is longer, or until you test negative.

You can read further details in the student guidelines document.

If you have any questions relating to Vanguard College’s response to covid-19 please email fall2021@vanguardcollege.com or reach out Pastor Aunge Goobie or Pastor Mikel Cowie.

We look forward to being together again and we are praying for a wonderful semester,

Rev. Mark MacKnight, Acting President
