Police Check Information

Every student registering for online or on campus at Vanguard College is required to secure a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening. This check must be completed no sooner than 4 months before your course term start date. Vanguard College requires an original copy of the check to be completed in the name of Vanguard College.

On-Campus applicants, please continue reading for instructions below.

Residents of Edmonton:

Residents of Edmonton and surrounding areas of Beaumont, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan, Leduc, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, and Morinville can quickly and conveniently complete a criminal record check with vulnerable sector search at the Edmonton Police Check Information Station at #108 14315 – 118 Ave in the Nexus Business Park. The cost of the check is $50. More information on this check and required ID can be found here.

Police Information Check applications can also be submitted at any Edmonton Police Service station or local RCMP detachment in the surrounding areas. RCMP rates may vary.

Residents outside of Edmonton:

Residents outside of Edmonton must complete a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search at their local RCMP station or police services. Rates will vary depending on the location. Students are recommended to print or show the following letter if requested.

Once you have completed your check, drop it off at the College or bring it with you when you come to the College. If your local police station or RCMP ask for an address to mail the check, use:

Vanguard College
12140 103 Street
Edmonton. AB

Do I really need to include the vulnerable sector check?

Yes, Vanguard College works closely with ministry partners in the city to coordinate practicum placements that involve students getting hands-on experience working in seniors homes, churches, youth groups, and homeless shelters.  These locations involve serving vulnerable individuals.

I completed a criminal check 10 months ago - can I use this check?

No, Vanguard College needs a check completed no sooner than four months prior to your term start date.

What do I do with my check once I have it?

If your Police Station or local RCMP will mail it to the College, ask them to do that.

Vanguard College
12140 103 Street
Edmonton. AB   T5G 2J9

If you have to pick it up or it is mailed to you, drop it off at the College anytime before the start of the term or bring it with you when you come in the fall.

When do I complete my police check?

You can complete your police check anytime after May 1st (for September start).  You will need to have it completed before you begin any Field Education courses.
